BHS Charity Race Day
Show your support for our amateur jockeys and help to raise funds for the vital work of The British Horse Society. Twelve amateur jockeys will race at Wetherby Racecourse 1st November and Newbury Racecourse on 7th November. Three of these jockeys are F&I members! (Ed: I hear they’re doing 4-minute planks!!!)

Jockeys have to train extremely hard to get to their fitness peak in preparation for a mile race on the flat by passing the official BHA Jockey fitness test. Each rider has to raise a minimum £2,500 for the BHS vital appeals. Each rider must source a horse currently in training who is eligible for the race.

I’m Amy Bannister-Bell and I’m taking part in the BHS Charity Race at Weatherby racecourse on 1st November 2024. I’m doing this to raise money for a society that has been the foundation of my career with horses and because it brings in my love of racing! I’m a BHSI freelance coach and also work for Retraining of Racehorses (RoR). I have a yard in North Wales, Clwydian Stud, we produce young National Hunt horses along with sports ponies and also retrain former racehorses. Please donate even if it’s just to watch me suffer training for the fitness test or join me for a day at the races and watch me get dropped on the way to the start!
My name is Ann Bostock and I am a BHSI. I have been involved with the BHS for for over 40 years. I rode at Newbury in 2018, the first BHS charity race and look forward to racing again. Since 2018 I have been supporting the jockeys through their fitness test and my husband Ian and I have been there on the day to help with with any last minute queries they might have. We will still be on hand this year to help anyone that needs it.
I am a BHSI based in the South West. I started riding at a young age and progressed to P2P and held my Category A Amateur jockey license, including riding at Cheltenham Foxhunters. After retiring from racing I focused on eventing and progressing my coaching career. Through the support of BHS coaches I gained my BHSI and now want to help others to achieve their educational goals. When the opportunity arose to be part of this inspiring fundraising race I couldn’t wait to get back into training, and started to ride out for a local trainer before my application had even been accepted! The British Horse Society promotes and protects everything dear to you and your horse. For over 70 years, the BHS has been a strong equestrian voice. We will continue supporting horses and riders, and you can too.
